Gorgeous massive park with lots of informational historical bits and buildings hidden everywhere. Our little pug loved this place and the off leash areas are so spacious and clean! The human facilities for women were also quite clean from what we experienced. ππΏπ
We intend to definitely explore more.
A great off leash dog park makes for a great place for exercise with beautiful scenery of the marina and harbour for them selfies.
A really interesting part of Sydney history alongside the water with lovely walking trails. π³
Callan Park was a mental hospital campus with some very beautiful buildings. It is no longer used for that purpose and some of the buildings are currently in use for various organizations.
π² The waterfront pathway forms a portion of the Bay Run, a 7km loop. Very popular with cyclists and runners.
πΆββοΈThere are ample walking tracks and green grass
π» The toilets are marked on Maps. They're old, but functional.
β Check out the mini Harbour Bridge!
π§ Unfortunately, at the moment (April 2023), many areas are under construction. Still passable to walkers.
π Parking available, although the road gets narrow on account of the construction. Runs out quickly on weekends during soccer season.
Superb cricket ground with a lightning fast outfield. The location is idiilic, you can sit under the shade of giants trees and peer across the field to the busy bay run.
Looking for a hideaway for you and your canine companion?
Visit Callan Park.
It's a quiet area with a little bit of everything, from waterlines to greenery to some nice architecture.
I would also recommend it for people who want to get out with their friends for a picnic but don't want to deal with the migraine of congestion that is Centennial Park, or simply if you want to mix it up.
This park hits the mark. You can come to relax or sit and pay your tax. We came with some friends to party and play, ended up staying out in the sun and shade all day. Great for families, dogs and parties. Be wary of the water drop off me harties! π΄ββ οΈβ¦ but yeah itβs a decent place to chill and stuff. β¦
Great place to walk your dog, leash free.
Callan Park features several rundown buildings that were once part of a mental health facility. The haunting beauty of the dilapidated structures tells a poignant tale of its past. The Kirkbride complex, with its faded grandeur, was a prominent part of mental health treatment here. While these buildings may show signs of wear, they also serve as a reminder of the strides made in mental health care. Exploring the site offers a unique perspective on the evolution of mental health facilities in Sydney.
